I...kinda get where you are going.

I have friends who are into different fandoms than me. I, personally, don't mind if they ramble on about their fandoms if they don't mind me doing the same. Sometimes, it can actually be interesting to hear about fandoms I'm not familiar with. Or I can appreciate fanart even if I don't know who the characters are.
But I also get what you mean if they constantly spam you with it.

Maybe your friend doesn't get it because it doesn't bother them like it bothers you? Some people are actually easygoing about other ships and characters.

My friend and I used to picspam each other. Usually it was stuff we both liked, but we'd throw in stuff I liked and she didn't, and stuff she liked and I didn't. Half the fun was that it gave us a chance to sort of mock the fandomy things we were so overly invested in.

If it upsets you, tell her. If you're too embarrassed to tell her? Lighten up about it.

Some people are actually easygoing about other ships and characters.

I generally am. But when I say "yeah, I'm not really into that pairing", I don't like to be linked to images of it constantly. She can ship whatever she wants and that's fine. I'm cool with it. Doesn't mean she has to shove it in my face.

So its not about lightening up. It's about respecting the fact that I am not into certain ships and don't really care to see it or mock it. It would be different if she didn't know that I don't like the ship, but she does and still links me.

Just be assertive. Like "No offense but I'm really not into this pairing. Can we talk about something else we both like?" If that doesn't stop the picspam, tell them outright that it's getting annoying, and that even if they're not intending to be it has to stop.
