Better you're too thin to cosplay than a complete landwhale.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-19 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure all the people struggling to recover from eating disorders will thank you for that comment.

Fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-19 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
C'mon now.

Yes I'm a huge dick but I'd rather see a thinner person cosplay than a fatty

I understand, anon. I have a very, er, scrawny figure, and I know I can't pull off any of the "busty" characters (really, most of them, in this male-oriented design world). I actually bought fake breast inserts to wear in my shirts. Yep, skinny people have insecurities, too. Don't feel bad, anon, basically everyone in the world is right there with you in some way or another.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-19 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? underweight and overweight comes to the same thing if the basic problem is that you don't want to put your body on display.

I feel like I'm saying this about once a week here but: wearing a bikini and heels =/= cosplay. There are plenty of other costumes out there and you should just pick one that a) suits and flatters your body shape b) you feel comfortable in c) is fun for you to walk around in. Then make it well and go out and have fun!

Also, ignore the assholes. but that's always good advice.

You're not gross, says the legit fattie. Shapes vary.

[identity profile] tawabids.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shapes vary" is exactly the mantra you should listen to, OP!

And just think: if you stripped for a life modeling class, every artist in the room would love drawing your body no matter what shape and size.

Everyone has issues with their bodies whether they are short, tall, fat or thin. I'm sure that you'd look fantastic if you would find the confidence! You can do it. Plus, in the realm of cosplay, you could more "accurately" portray many of the skinny-mini characters found in Animes than those with curves (in terms of appearance, that is).

(Anonymous) 2011-02-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheer up.

I'm guessing you've got a high metabolism and you're just built that way, right? As long as you're still living healthily and not making yourself sick to be that size (which I don't think is the case from your secret), then I think the same advice given to fat cosplayers applies to you, too--wear something that'll work for your body type, put effort into the costume, and I think it'll turn out great. My brother's super thin--he just recently managed to get his weight up to 105 I think--but the few times he's cosplayed he's managed to do a great job. (Also, I don't think he's gross at all. Although I'm jealous of him a little, I didn't inherit that body type, heh.)

(Anonymous) 2011-02-19 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You can always try to cosplay CLAMP or CLAMP related series (Code Geass). They are legit stick people.

I have a friend who's always annoyed because she can never get past a size 0 and can never find any good clothes because of it, so I know what you mean.

I agree with the anon who suggested CLAMP cosplaying. There are also other characters who are extremely skinny that would be interesting to cosplay. Like Jack or Sally from Nightmare before Christmas, or other inhuman type characters. It could be fun if you found someone you liked. :)

I have this problem too sometimes. I never want to have cosplays that show back because my spine sticks out so much. D:

[identity profile] ceruleansan.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I can relate. e-e it's not nice to hear people use words like "chicken legs" and "bony hands".

People these days feel body conscious no matter what they look like. Don't feel bad, OP.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Don't feel gross, OP. There's something beautiful about every body type. (Keep in mind, I say this as one of the previously mentioned landwhales. But my point still stands.)

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
If you do have a different body type than the more "skinny mini animu character", it's best to play to your strengths. If you're really thin I wouldn't recommend cosplaying a character that is well-muscled or else it will just accentuate how thin you are even more. The same goes to characters who wear baggy clothes. Make it the right kind of baggy to your frame. It's your right to cosplay whatever character you want to, no matter if you're a big gal or a tiny gal or any shape or size in between, but the best thing anyone of any size can do for themselves is make it work.

Instead of pushing losing weight for cosplay on people, more emphasis should be put on making costumes in a way that will flatter your body. For instance, someone with short legs should take a skirt in a little farther than it falls on the character to help give that illusion of longer legs. It's knowing the rules of fashion and the rules of cosplay, really.

In short, no matter what your size, OP, you can wear a costume and still look great. :)

[identity profile] missxstargirl.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Most anime has ridiculous proportions, so be confident and fine an art style/character similar to your body type c:

[identity profile] valenciapilgrim.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
OP, if the media has taught us anything, it's that you can never be too thin! ...if you're female. If you're male, I think the media judges you a little more harshly (sorry dudes).

Seriously though, I understand how you feel. The thing about body issues is that they are NEVER rational, but they feel very real to us. Like, I'm a five foot five woman that weighs about 160, and a fair amount of that is in my butt and breasts. My body is NORMAL, probably even above average from some male POVs. But there is very often a voice in the back of my head that says "no one will ever love you until you lose weight."

On a rational level, I know that's complete bullshit. People of every size and shape find real, lasting love. Love has nothing to do with perfection! But there is a part of my brain that *believes* that my body is gross and unlovable.

Anyway, I have skinny friends who feel self-concious. I always hear them complain, and I think "Yeah, I would trade you any day." I think my friends and I could argue back and forth forever: 'No, being a chubster is worse for sure!' / 'No way, being flat as a board is way worse!' But life is weird like that - it's just another way that the grass is always greener.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Then eat a fucking sandwitch you ugly annorexic slut!

Jesus, it's not like it's hard to put on weight, not like it is to lose weight.

Idiot.

Aw, OP, don't feel bad.

I think you should keep cosplaying proudly. H8ters gonna H8, etc.
Besides which it's really important for people like me that you do, since I need people with your body type around to see at conventions to give me the pure motivation to starve myself.
