Hey, Brian Jacques started my love for otters, and they're totally my favorite animal now. If I lived in Mossflower, I'd be an otter, or possibly a hare. No shame in liking Redwall! <3

I'm totes going to make a Redwall Feast in honor of Brian Jacques sometime this week, and my brothers are going to help me, because we all loved those books. They were my childhood, too, anon.

FUCK YEAH OTTERS FOREVER

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone who loves otters should read "Ring of Bright Water." It's by a Scottish man, about his pet otters (was written in the 60's I think.) It is totally AWESOME <3

Oh man, I didn't know that he died. Anon has a sad now :(

Without fail, I look out for new Redwall books whenever I go into a bookshop. Way to be a bad fan...I didn't even know he'd died :( Such a sad loss to [children's] literature.

I was always a fan of the Long Patrol <3

In my head, Atrus was saying your comment. It was beautiful ;_;

I loved the Redwall series when I was younger - Brian Jacques' writing style was so fascinating to me :) I also loved hearing the audiobook versions of the books - to me, he seemed like a very wise and kind person. May he rest in peace.

Otters FTW!

[identity profile] dancingcarrot21.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Matthias! <3

He was my favorite. :)

And otters are kickass in that series, bb.

[identity profile] clowderheart.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
OP.

Everyone still wants to be an otter.

[identity profile] chelonianmobile.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
No shame in it!

Those books defined most of my childhood. They're the reason I have several of the friends I have now, the reason I got into natural history, and the reason I spent ten years demanding a pet ferret (finally paid off on my eighteenth birthday with my two darling fuzzbuckets ^_^).

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
My siblings and I had a (sort of) pet squirrel that we named Lady Amber ^^ She used to come and scratch at our back door so we would come give her walnuts xD

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Idk how old you are, but I'm 23 and I still love Redwall and read the books and am totes unashamed xD
also, I myself would loooove to be a Long Patrol Hare, if I was in the Redwallverse =D

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
My siblings and I were homeschooled and we would watch the cartoons of Redwall and Mattimeo on PBS every day during our lunch. Good times <3

There are few things cuter than Matthias on the cover of that book.

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'd probably be an otter or a hare. =) They're such fun characters and I'll miss his stories. I haven't read them in years because it started to get repetitive after a while but this makes me want to check out his later works.

[identity profile] phaethon.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I was very saddened to hear about Jacques, too. I loved Redwall as a kid, and even as an adult, I still find the books kickass. It's amazing how he was able to maintain more or less the same quality throughout all these years.

Also, I had no idea everyone loved otters so much! They were my favorites as well, closely followed by the stoats/weasels.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Redwall secret, hell yes! Hearing about his death - RIP, Mr. Jacques - made me want to find Mossflower or another one of my favorites. Those books were a huge part of my childhood too, so I know exactly what you mean.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I didn't know he died until now :(

Mossflower was the first I read in that series, and it's still my favourite by far. I remember I used to draw the shit out of the scenes as they appeared in my head as a kid.

Hey, if I'm ever going to need a fursona, it's gonna have to be a Long Patrol hare. So badass. Or a squirrel haha.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-22 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Otters otters otterssssss <3

Taggerung was one of my favorite books. The only thing that ever drove me crazy though was that even though the first book implies foxes and cats are neutral, they never are. :< And there were maybe three vermin characters of any species that were ever good, and maybe six bad non-vermin characters, almost all of them voles.

[identity profile] stuffy34.livejournal.com 2011-02-23 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Otters FTW! My fursona is an otter.

I'm still struggling to come to terms with Mr. Jacques's passing. He really influenced my childhood and is responsible for my love of weaponry, specifically swords. He will be greatly missed.
