Kagome didn't wish for that, though. And I think InuYasha only considered it because of Kikyou.

Yeah, the concept of it doesn't exactly work with how the end of the series played out. It was just my SUPER AWESOME IDEA that I had when I was 12, and part of me still feels that way.

I liked the official ending too but I have to admit to being fond of the "Inuyasha turns human" ending as a what if/AU scenario. Given the way things worked out with the Shikon no Tama, I doubt it would have been a viable solution in the canon universe (although I guess it could work as a kind of "the hero willingly gives up his power for others' sake" scenario). Nevertheless, the dramatic irony of the situation appeals to me. It'd be really interesting to see how he would deal with it. The other cast members could have some pretty interesting reactions too.

Actually I thought Inuyasha becoming human would be the ending too. I thought that since Inuyasha didn't really have anything left in his world, why not accept that being a demon wasn't everything and go live with Kagome? I'm still a little disappointed that Kagome dropped everything to go live in the past but oh well.

I think you hit it on the head, really: Inuyasha has much, much less to give up than Kagome, so the idea of him leaving his world is more realistic and definitely more fair, IMO. I never understood why the burden was on her.

... why would you rather live in modern day Tokyo than a world as amazing as the Feudal Japan in the series? D: If I had a chance to leave this boring old world for a fantasy land and a hot magical creature, damn right you'd bet I would.

Though, I don't see why she has to go either place permanently. Did the well get shut down or something? Can't she just keep dividing her time between her home, family, and friends, and the feudal world?

I'd totally just run off to Feudal Japan if I was behind on my studies and failing all my classes. At least I wouldn't fail at kicking monster ass in the other world.

Well, based purely on practical concerns (medical advances, technology, women's rights, etc.), why WOULDN'T you want to stay in the present? But I realize the past is kind of idealized in Inuyasha, so I guess it wouldn't matter much either way.

I do agree that she shouldn't have to stay in either place permanently, but the ending pretty much implied that she had totally given up her "normal" life, judging by her family's reaction, her clothing, and so on. I guess it's possible that she's just spending the majority of her time in Sengoku Jidai and not all of it, but still. Seemed pretty final to me.

It kind of be wonderfully fucked up if Takahashi had actually taken it to the logical conclusion and had Kagome on her death bed (and considering its the feudal age she may have only had it to 30/40) being all "God I resent you." to 20 year old Inuyasha.

As far as I'm concerned, almost any fanon ending could be better than the one we got. I found myself wishing Naraku had just self-destructed at the end and killed everybody.
