In terms of Andy giving them to the little girl to play with and love and them not being incinerated, yes it's a happy ending. Plus, they were all together. For being toys with no control over what happens to them, what more could they ask for?

ok yes if you only look literally at the one moment at the end of the movie.
what i'm saying here is that that's too simplistic, there's no real way for there to BE a happy ending if you think beyond that moment. If I was going to be really pretentious and emo I would posit that being incinerated would in fact be the happier ending because it would mean they would never have to go through the abandonment again, but i'm not, so i won't

It would make for a great Philosophy class: The Existentialism of Toys :)

But that's life. We all die in the end: that is literally the only final ending possible for anyone, ever. To be passed on to another child, another family, so that they can have a second life? That's a wonderful result, as is ending up in the nursery school: the toys get to have a new life as long as they live, until they die. Woody has presumably done well, being passed from someone else to Andy, and then on. They might live long enough to end up with yet another child, or get donated to the nursery school, or they might die before that becomes relevant. Everyone dies. Better to live first.

I'm not trying to make you feel bad here, anon, but I gotta say-- before this movie I really did have a fridge-horror moment about what must have happened to the toys once Andy grew out of them. So... I guess I was unknowingly saved by already coming to the conclusions that they would eventually be tossed away or given away.

I do agree though-- that scene was very hard to watch. I think most of the people in the theater were crying, myself included.

Someone else has already said "but that's life" - but that's exactly the phrase that popped into my mind, too. We all lose all the people we love, in time - most friendships will eventually fade or sour, failing that, people move far away, or into other phases of their lives. Every romantic relationship ends in either breakup or death. Life IS an endless cycle of being discarded, until you die. The beauty in Toy Story 3's ending - and in life - comes with the realization that all you can do is cherish those you love while you have them, and make the most of things as they are, rather than longing for the past.
