I'm really interested in your thesis topic, anon!

I wrote about Lovecraft's personality creation - and, after reading the bulk of his work, letters (which are fascinating!) and biographies I came to the conclusion that he wasn't so much of a scientist and a gentleman as he liked to claim. However, the matter is a bit more complicated - after all, he himself probably believed in his invented artistic persona.

Overall, it's a short biographical study connected with some literary analysis. If you'd like to give it a look, I'd be glad to upload it somewhere to to mail it to you - although be warned: if it is not apparent by now, English is my second language ;) The text itself is in English, but who knows how many awkward passages are still there.

Anon, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would also like to take a look at your thesis :)

I'd love to have a look, it sounds really interesting. I've always been a little fascinated by Lovecraft, as well as by his world.

And I would never have guessed that English was not your native language!

Thanks! :)

The thesis is available for download here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/449003491/Lovecraft.doc

Te first chapter is basically the theoretical groundwork; concepts such as author, writer, scriptor, hero etc. Chapters 2&3 are pure Lovecraft. If you'd like to comment on it, feel free to; just put a dot between my name and my surname and add @gmail.com ;) Unfortunately, I can't really continue my research on Lovecraft; my university doesn't have an AmLit MA seminar at the moment, so now I write my MA on Canadian literature. I didn't suspect that it would be so different! ;)

Cool, thanks! I look forward to reading it when I'm not on my phone :)

What aspect of Canlit are you doing?

It may sound awfully speficic, but my MA thesis is about the construction of identity in the autobiographical Metis writings ;)

Wow! That does sound awfully specific, and very far from Lovecraft, though I cans see where the "construction of identity" thing fits with your undergrad thesis topic.

What Metis literature are you working from? I know "Half-Breed" but that's about the only one I'm familiar with.

Campbell's "Halfbreed" is indeed one of the texts I analyze! I also write about Beatrice Culleton's "In Search of April Raintree", which is sort of her fictionalized autobiography, and two strictly autobiographical works: Howard Adams' "Otapawy!" - quite contemporary narrative of a Metis leader - and "A Son of the Fur Trade", 19th century memoirs of one Johnny Grant, a Metis trader. It may be far from Lovecraft, but I enjoy it a lot! The Metis stories are in general so depressing that you can't help but feel better in comparison ;)

Just commenting to say that I'm also very interested, have downloaded, and will read when I have the time.

Best of luck for your MA :)
