>Hair color

It scares me to think that some people think their OCs' hair color is so fantastic that it has to be copyrighted.

[identity profile] spiritlobo.livejournal.com 2011-02-21 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
OH MAI GAWD, U JUSTT DON UNDRSTND, MYY OC, PRINCESS SPAKRELE PANTS, HAZ DIS BEUTIFAL HAR, N IF I C SMEONE USIN DEH COLR BROWN 4 THERE OC'S, DEY MUST HAV STOLAN EET.

Whoo~ I think part of my died there.
Agreed, my dear, it's quite frightening that some people think so highly of themselves that they cause a ruckus over something so trivial. You have a blue haired OC? Well, so does half of anime.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do people actually get mad about that? I've accepted some OCs as my headcanon so if I ever used them in fanworks, would that kick up a shitstorm? D: My headcanon is loosely based on other OCs too...

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Define hypocrite, op anon. I'm tired of seeing that word being misused all the damned time, so tell me how they are hypocrite.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...because they are taking someone else's creation and playing with it, and then get upset when someone takes their creation and plays with it? Seems pretty obvious.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-20 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The op is saying that those who complain for getting their OCs stolen are hypocrites. Most of those OCs are really original creations copied over and over again.

I don't see how these people who complain are being hpocrite, I don't see how they can be pretending or faking their anger for getting copied.

Definition of HYPOCRITE
1: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

Definition of HYPOCRISY
1: a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not; especially : the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion
2: an act or instance of hypocrisy

So, OP, why are they hypocrites? Their anger is not false, their beliefs are not false.

These people have the right to complain, at least most of them. They are fanworks but they hold their property and anyone can use the concept of anthrophomorphic nations. Himaruya didn't make it, it has existed for a long, long time already.

a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

In other words, they make clear by their actions that other people's work is fair for unpaid public consumption and then complain when people think their work is fair for unpaid public consumption which suggest that they disapprove of the former belief. Hypocrite.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-21 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
How so? They complain they are traced and copied, they made those works for public consumption, not public copy-paste and proclaiming to own a work that is not their own.

Names, personality, and hair color aren't something that you can legitimately make your own, to be perfectly honest even in original characters. I doubt whoever did the first mary-sue thought the next mary-sue should have credited her. Tracing without credit isn't really what the secrets about.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
well, okay...but if it clearly *is* the same character they should be credited...

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's where I agree with you.
But I think OP meant s/he has met people who are a bit like... how do I explain this? I fortunately haven't met someone who really said this.
My idea of it is:

OC_1: Portugal. Likes fishing.
OC_2: Portugal. Likes fishing as well.

I mean, Portugal is famous for fish dishes :|
Gabriel? Oh, how many times have I heard that name for Portugal?
And I couldn't imagine a blonde Portugal. So I bet there are tons of brunette Portugals out there.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-21 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I can understand similar traits or characteristics but what I cannot really understand is blunt tracing and copying all the characteristics and personality of a character.

The best example you can see out there is rowein's Argentina. The blond guy has been copied and traced and distributed as each artist's property when it is clearly not. They copy every single detail, from the ahoge to the fact it is called Misiones to his tastes and little details that are not easily known or put together by doing a good deep research.

I do get that is silly to complain about colors and traits, but when the over all design is exactly the same except for the name, it's plagiarism. It's as if somebody took Himaruya's Spain and called him Roberto, changed nothing about his personality or data and then claimed him as their property. It would be obvious that the artist has stolen the character, same happens here. Many fights concerning OC rights are due this, blunt plagarism of characters that were made long ago and are mostly copies except for one fragile detail.

It is making the fandom mad and aggressive and, personally, it is tiring me a lot to see how much they fight due this just because people think that fanworks, even based on Himaruya's concept (and actually it is not Himaruya's original concept, anthropomorphic versions of countries have been done for a long, long while before he used it for something as amazing as Hetalia is), are not meant to be respected.

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-02-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I really didn't know that Tintin was copied that much D:
Of course I agree with you here. That's not fair.

(Anonymous) 2011-02-21 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Rowein made it around 2 years ago and published him, as well as other two characters, at [livejournal.com profile] hetalia_esp, making him and them be the angular stones that made [Unknown site tag] exist.

They were born, if there such a thing to say, in April and in October the copies started to show up. The best copy and most famous one is Diego, Nennysita's copy of Argentina, who happened to be also a member of the Latin comm. She refused to admit she had ties with the LJ comm and then, when Rowein showed up, she said she loosely based her character on hers which is false because there are no differences at all except the name. She is also known for literally traicing and many people like her have traced her as well, thus distorting all this issue and making Rowein look as if she actually traced Nenny's work, which is not true.

It's honestly tiresome and I do get if the OP is tired of hearing "OMG, you biatch, you stole his hair color, how could you?!" but some authors are really complaining because they are traced, sometimes literally, to make fanworks for internet glory and fame and whenever the original author complains, they send over the masses to shut them down, thus this fandom is making people walk off it due this, it is tiresome and sad.

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...people do not really cry about "stolen" hair colours, do they really?
Oh my.

[identity profile] celadonite.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Your icon made me chuckle XD

[identity profile] lashiec.livejournal.com 2011-02-20 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Might as well call em what they really are while they're at it: fancharacters.

...Seriously, HAIR COLOR?
