I'm still uncomfortable about no one calling Shirley out about her homophobic (to me at least) comments.

I don't doubt that these exist but can't think of any off the top of my head, what're you referring to?

She's made several comments about how Jesus would not approve and how gay people are going to hell. Honestly I'm often more offended by her bible thumping than Pierce's old man douchebaggery.

well the characters AREN'T fine with her comments but have learned to tune them out, unlike pierce's who comes up with new stuff

Well yeah. Shirley is still seen as the nicest member of the group when she says things that are much harsher than most of the things Pierce says. His offensive comments are so over the top that they just pass right by the viewer as obvious jokes, hers are much more realistic and offensive because they're what a lot of overly religious people actually believe.

Exactly!

All characters on Community are flawed but they are actually called out on it. But Shirley is this nice mom and no one ever says anything. I mention this a lot on fs and have actually had pretty good conversations with people who agree. :)
