On one hand, they could go farther with things like the violence, swearing, and sexuality (I fully believe that Dean would be portrayed as bi if he weren't the main character on a CW show). On the other, I love all the actors and wouldn't trade anything in the world for them, and I think a lot of the visuals would be lost.

Agreed very much. Even on the Dean point. Though a similar effect could have been achieved if they had it on some other network, maybe?

True, if the show had been picked up by HBO or something. They'd have less episodes though, and one of the main things I liked about the show was that it took its time in world-building, which couldn't have happened if it was constricted to a smaller time-slot. It would only have to be bare-bones arc. Win some, lose some I guess.
