It's actually EVIL.

If all your life you have been given forks "for free" and they suddenly drop you in China, where you have the alternative of using "free" chopsticks or buying a 400 dollars fork, you'll be more than willing to pay for the 400 dollars fork just to start eating right now instead of waiting till you have learned how to use the chopsticks.

They make you dependable on their technology and unwilling to learn new ones. Why do you think most people do not ask to have Windows removed from their brand new computers even if doing so would save them 100 dollars (more or less)?

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the music industry is in charge of their own "leaks" too, at least for new artist. How do you get people to hear them when it's expensive to do so?

The manga and anime industry are nice, I think. They don't have a problem with scanlating UNLESS they think you're making money out of it. And they'll never send your scanlating group a "Cease and Desist" unless they are already publishing the manga in your language AND you're having a bad effect on their sales. They know that if more people follow their products, even if not by legal means, they'll be much more willing to buy the legal product when it's in their country and, obviously, merchandising.

Why did you think that they targeted Mangahelpers and OneManga instead of the scanlations groups?

Actually, the fork VS chopstick analogy kinda fails with me considering I actually know how to use both, but I see what you're saying. |D;;; /brick'd for deliberately missing the point

And, ehhhh, I don't know about how nice the anime and manga industry really is. There's a lot of big name people in the industry (both manga-ka and industry professionals) who have gone on record saying that they "want manga/anime pirates to die" (paraphrasing, btw) and blame them for how little the anime companies are making (instead of, ya know, the economy which sucks pm worldwide still). There's no major lawsuits going on as of yet /cynical but that doesn't mean they're any kinder than some of the other industries.

Though I do see your point on attacking OneManga VS scanlation groups seeing as scanlation groups try not to use ads and instead rely on donations to keep their sites running and to get raws. But then I think of MangaToshoukan and how they had to remove basically EVERYTHING from their site that was Japanese manga INCLUDING unlicensed manga no thanks to the "manga coalition". I could understand if it were all stuff that is available in the US like Bleach, Naruto, Cardcaptor Sakura, Wish, etc, but for obscure ones that will never see the light of day outside Japan like Double Arts? WTH?
