Totally agree. Hence why I've stopped buying books and have no intention of investing in a Kindle. I get all the good stuff for free!

Right?! Unless it is certain writers/series I don't even bother. And it used to be, you couldn't drag me out of a bookstore without a caravan, fifteen horses and the threat of fire. Was never keen on shopping, but couldn't resist the printed word. Well...still can't resist the printed word, though yeah - all the best stuff is FREE. *GLEES* And two taps on the keyboard away.

That reminds me...need to start hoarding my fav fics again, lol!

So true. I used to raid the book bins at goodwill (bought the entire HP series for under $20!) but lately I seem to get so caught up in fic that I totally forget about the books on my shelf.

Ohhh, lucky you!! Got them hardback. Some books just...NEED to be in hardback. I still want to get the Dresden series in hardback, but - wait - I think my wallet just fainted, lol!

I think fanfic IS better in some many ways. Not just money-wise, either (though my pockets are thankful for the reprieve). There is so much more freedom and expression in fanfiction. I love to read - and there is so much more variety in fanfiction than in 'standard fiction'. The latest book I bought was a Sue Grafton novel - and soon that series will be over.

Fanfic is my first (and last) refuge.
