True, but it's somewhat sane anyway imo (compared to many other stories). I mean, Derek gets his fishes warm when he only focuses on Odette's looks and doesn't see anything more beyond that - that's pretty good too to hear for a kiddo who usually only hear the same thing as Sleeping Beauty: "hey, you are singing and dancing and looking pretty, let's FROLIC".

Haha, agreed. It may still be a love story, but it's a more realistic one, with the guy getting called out on his idiocy without becoming the villain (unlike Gaston, for example).

Yep, he's a moron in that case but he gets called out on it and gets a chance to become a better person. And he's not like many idiots in stories in which it's written in stone that they are idiots = bad people/villains = never will change.

Exactly. He's not portrayed as the perfect prince, but he gets better over the course of the movie. He wouldn't have been able to bring Odette back if he still only loved her for her looks.

Well, yeah, but what changes by the end of the movie? Derek never has to come up with anything he loves about her other than her beauty. That message really was a dud, if you ask me.
