That's kind of a point where Your Fandom's Mileage Varies. In some fandoms, that's the case. In others (like my fandom), nobody gives one whit of a damn about "feelings" and just tends to throw Two Random Dudes together purely because they're hot (not that there's anything wrong with that, but if you're reading for more than just wank material, it gets old fast).

It could be the OP has just been living Sturgeon's Law and running into mostly bad slash that's...well...written for the sex and little else.
