Because. Varric. So much love. (I also am entertained by Isabela, often in spite of myself. Oh, you girl!pirate!Zevran with less murder and more sex jokes, you.)

After a while, I got kinda pissed I couldn't romance Varric. I mean, I like Fenris and all (because sure as shit I'm not dealing with New!Anders and his emo-mage issues bull), but Varric. Just Varric. Just for the line, "Friend, if your brooding were any more impressive, women would swoon as you passed. They'd have broody babies in your honor."

Isabela is slowly getting me to like her, too. I didn't expect her to be so charming.

If I could romance Varric, he would be the only man for me everrrrrr, no lie. He's amazing. I want to keep him.

(The Anders romance is really... ~dramatic and he is all "WOE IS MEEEEE" all the fucking time; I really need to play through the Fenris stuff because I am liking him like, 900% as much as I expected to, given what information was out about him before the game was released. It helps that his VA is Balthier.)

I was hoping so hard that Anders would pull a "I WISH I KNEW HOW TO QUIT YOU" during the rivalry romance but I was disappointed. Male or female Hawke, I would have laughed so hard

Wow, I thought it was just me -- I would totally have romanced Varric if there had been the option. The other two guys fucking sucked. Anders was cartoonishly boring, and Fenris was cartoonishly emo and his anger management issues made me cringe. (Seriously, moodily swilling from a wine bottle and then smashing it in anger against the wall makes me think of domestic violence, not romance. Gross.)

Plus I think Varric is hot. I love me some broken-nosed ugly-sexy men. :P


The only redeeming relationship in the whole game was the adorable friendship that grew between Varric and Merrill.
