I fully understand. I'm in the same situation, only I never had a circle of friends who understood anything about fandom to begin with. If I dare to tell anything of my "hobby" to my friends the best I would get are curious stares, followed by some interested sounding questions and ending with, "Sorry, this is all new to me.It's sure fascinating." It's not that they don't care, it's that they seriously have no idea (about the concept of fandom in general, not just the show I'm fangirling about.)

To the person who asked "So what DO you talk about with your friends?" the answer in my case is whatever the group as a whole finds interesting and decides to make a conversation of.

Yeah, this.
I'll talk about the TV/movies I'm into and my friends know what actors I'm in love with, but that's as far as it goes. The topic of fandom itself would just go over their heads.

Although I don't know if this is what the OP is saying, exactly. The way they worded some things don't exactly sit well with me. :/
