While I still think it wrong for someone to complain over a gay character being portrayed as straight

Uhh, "wrong" is an interesting word to choose. Why do you feel this way?

Let me start by saying that I find it 'wrong' for a person to complain over a straight character being portrayed as gay as well. My point of contention has nothing to do with the orientation of a character. More so, I'm of the mind that a person can find love in anyone and that, as shipping is often a reflection of one's personal experience with love, that if a person should ship a canon-lesbian with a man it doesn't speak of any dislike of homosexuality necessarily. Like, let's say someone is a big fan of Rose/Kanaya because it resembles something they've had personal experience with. If Rose turns out straight, is that person somehow bad for liking two characters together that they think resembles what they have personal experience with? Or vice-versa on that. If a person ships John/Rose and Rose turns out gay, were they wrong to ship John/Rose? Obviously, Rose's orientation isn't known at the moment. But I don't understand why her orientation should suddenly define her character to the extent that a person is somehow a monster for shipping her contrary to her orientation if the ship was based on what was thought of as a complimentary or compatible personalities.

So yeah, shipping is usually personal and reflective of one's personal experience with love. Ship-bashing is never fun, and it's ever stupider, imo, when the only point of contention one brings up in a rage against the couple is "omg! wrong orientation"
