I don't think that is what anyone is trying to do.

It's been said to us in canon that trolls don't give a fuck about gender! That's reason to assume that they may have preferences for either men or women, but don't conform to gay or straight identities, which is a foreign idea. No one is turning any trolls straight when they are paired them with the opposite gender, just as no one's turning them gay when they are paired with the same, because they are pansexual from the start.

Also it's really strange that people who will draw her with Rose and with Sollux or whatever, or who only like to pair her with a male character but like other characters paired with the same gender, still get accused of trying to "turn her straight." What?

Yes, I think I have a nasty habit of assuming too much for this specific thing when it comes to, admittedly, harmless shipping. I have run into it before in other fandoms, so I'm not speaking entirely out of my ass. I'll try to keep that tendency to a low though, since I honestly do want to enjoy fanwork without looking for reasons to be irked by it.

However, I find it odd that in troll society there's no need for gender to reproduce, but the concept of gender identity exists (asfaik a physical differentiation in sex too). But I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. Why else would "STOP PLAYING GAMES FOR GIRLS" even be a thing?

Also, saying an alien is pansexual from the start is almost like saying humans are straight from the start, I think. Wouldn't it make more sense to just say sexual orientation just doesn't make it into troll lexicon? Especially since we can assume no one would other one another because of it.
