Yeah, like I get that perhaps he is not KING OF SOCIAL SKILLS at that point, but I would have loved to at least see the rest of the party respond with what I would consider an appropriate level of reaming him out. I mean, what the SHIT, man. There is kicking a dog when he's down and HOLY SHIT WHAT THE CHRIST.

It's just holy shit he probably didn't even REMEMBER/KNOW, and the sister kind of JUST STABBED HIM IN THE BACK (doesn't that prove the "mages suck" point anyway?) and "SHE'S A MAGE YOU HYPOCRITE!!" its just

(HAHAHA after that one I was just like THAT'S IT IM GOING TO SPEND MY WHOLE 2ND GAME GETTING 100 RIVALRY WITH ANDERS /terrible - and this is after accidentally romancing Anders my first game)

And the worst part is I honestly do NOT know what the writers were going for there, did they MEAN to shove Anders off the Asshole Event Horizon or were they actually trying to make him make a point? Because the latter one seriously did not work...

Yeah, I mean, he didn't even know he had a sister for the longest time, so there's no way he'd have known anything ABOUT her. Also his sister had a shitty life, and then she double-crossed him, and then he realizes all that STUFF, and god, whether or not you like him (and I'm glad you do because it makes me feel weird to admit how much I ended up liking him whenever I talk to people) you can at least have a heart, right?!

I am going totally rival-style with Anders if I can bear having him along. Every time I see his face I want to punch him now.

Also don't feel bad about accidentally romancing Anders, LOL. I know like TWO of my friends who got like two hours in and suddenly Anders was all over them and they were like "the fuck?" Also his creepy "you remind me of someone I know, is that creepy?" speech is like, YES, ANDERS. YES THAT IS CREEPY. That is fucking Stalkertown as fuck you freak. I was very careful to choose the "what the fuck, ew" broken heart icon. Holy shit.

I blame the writer. :| He wrote Alistair/Morrigan/Zevran for DA:O, too, and Anders in DA:A and fuuuck I did not want to like Morrigan or especially Zevran because they were JUST AS FULL OF FANFIC TROPES AS FENRIS but I ended up loving them too. /face in hands

Oh god Anders and his questioning your Hawke on whoever Hawke's romancing, it's kind of painful aethgaektjhgk

Ha ha, yeah, I couldn't believe I liked Morrigan and Zevran either, but there I was! (Alistair was okay but not that interesting to me.)

Anders getting all us in your business about who you are fucking was like double-stalker. Stalker, stalker, stalker.

Also, I know, right! Like seriously, I replayed Awakenings right before DA2 so I could get a savegame with all the options I wanted, so Real!Anders was fresh in my mind. Who the fuck was this new guy? Whoever he was, he really needs to stop with the pseudo-poetic/dramatic lines because they're not even so bad they're funny, they're so bad they're... abysmal.

Yeah like I get that Justice warped Anders' personality but you'd think he'd get more hardline and brutal and not ROMANCE NOVELLY/OBSESSIVE EVEN IN A RIVALRY/IN TRUE PURE LOVE I can't even find words. There just isn't an explanation at all for THAT particular change. The rest I can accept as "happened but we didn't see it" but...

I got this feeling the writer was going for this epic star-crossed tragic romance where you were supposed to sympathize with Anders? But what I got out of it was oh god creepy insane stalker with an unhealthy Hawke obsession writing bad poetry. :|

That's an excellent point. You'd think, going by DA:A, that Justice would make Anders... maybe colder, more curt, and honestly HARDER to romance. Here, if you give him half an opening, he'll go for it. I feel like Justice maybe should have made Anders so focused on a certain path that the idea behind the Anders/Hawke relationship would actually be to sort of work your way in and breaking the link that made Anders so obsessive? I don't know. It just doesn't make sense to me that it made Anders into like a 14 year old girl.

As a fucked up creepy-ass motherfucking broken as hell romance, it's... definitely that? But oh god, not romantic. No, no, no. People harsh on Fenris' romance plot, but honestly, Anders' is the really weird Twilight-y one.

Yeah exactly, the only mention he ever makes is "well justice doesn't like that im OBSESSED WITH YOU" but ... that's it. And there's never an actual consequence from Justice or anything.

I think if they'd portrayed it AS a really creepy broken obsessive weird romance, I would have liked it. But I don't think that was what they were going for, hahaha. If you rivalmance Anders, it gets even creepier :|

Never thought I'd agree with Justice in this game.... (And unfortunately I've long since ceased being surprised at a lack of consequences... or things even being referenced again.)

And oh god, creepier? How? I agree that creepy could work, if creepy was your intention, but I didn't know there was also creepier than... well, unreserved freaky stalker weirdo. Man, I can't BELIEVE I thought that Anders would be the normal romance going in. I've never been so off-base in my life.

Not exact quotes, but "I don't know whether to kill you or kiss you!" and "if I don't do anything else, I'll have YOU by my side by the end of this"

...and more creepy things along those lines...

These sound like they were lifted directly from bad fanfiction. I know that's a common insult for bad writing, especially in games like this, but I mean it completely literally. That sounds like something a 13-year-old wound think was romantic. To me it sounds... clingy. Everything about Anders seems clingy. And not even the sort of cute, lovely-dovey clingy, but instead that weird awkward type of clingy.

HAHAHA I really wonder what Anders' original writer thinks about him in DA2...

Well if you work in an industry like that, you have to learn to let yourself be detached, ...

... buuuuut I would be totally pissed off. The dark side of teamwork, I suppose.
