Yeah, Varric's dialogue totally made the game. Some people have complained he's, like, too witty? But he's telling the story too, so he can add all those sick burns he thought of later, LOL. As for your issue with him, you're totally right. I mean, we got some tiny snippets, but it wasn't enough to get a real picture. And honestly, if anyone needed it, it was Varric, like I get from his "storytelling" conversation that he doesn't want to be the hero or center of attention, but his relationship with Hawke is super important, and therefore who/what Varric is also happens to be important. Then again, he did mention Bianca was the only story he wouldn't tell or something like that so, uh, tell me the other ones? And yeah, it would have been the perfect opportunity to just hear some "stories" (maybe abandoned plot ideas from the writers? That could have been cool for us and fun for the game writers to include. Or hell, he could have given the Warden's story at some point, even, for those who missed DAO or those who want to revel in their nostalgia).

And yeah, anyone who hates Aveline... I don't understand. Really? Really? She's absolutely amazing. I think it was good they kept her relatively toned-down. She was supposed to be the voice of reason, too, so it worked. I did want to know more about her though because it took me forever before I realized she was an officer, not just a soldier. I was all "oohhhhh that makes more sense!" She should also maybe have talked about Ostagar at some point, given us a ground-view take on what happened there. AGAIN, for the people who missed DAO, this would have been REALLY USEFUL. And what would it have been to add? Some text? Time-crunch I understand but it should have been doable. I loved her anyway though. (I just wish she had chosen a man with different facial hairrrrr.) I did think her tie to Orlais was neat, though. It allowed newbies to get some info, but we weren't saddled with another heavily-accented character like last time. Aveline is way cool and man, I just... respected the hell out of her.
