No, that's really not how it works. First off, Chernobyl didn't explode in a 'mushroom cloud' - a nuclear reactor is entirely different from an atom bomb. Second, the current crisis is NOTHING like Chernobyl, it's Three Mile Island. Chernobyl went as bad as it did because the Soviets didn't put the reactor in any sort of containment core because they were dumb, and then didn't train the crew running the reactor because they were super-dumb, and then the crew disabled many safety failsafes to do some sort of nonsensical 'test' because they were megadumb. Then the Soviet govt lied to everyone, botht he people on site and the world, about what had happened because they did not understand how radiation works and thought they could hide it. I won't go into why the Japan situation is so vastly different and why it's literally impossible for this situation to happen with the reactors - but currently the biggest threat to safety is not the reactorsa, but merely some spent fuel that was erroneously stored near the reactors that could possibly catch aflame. There would be no mushroom cloud, just some toxic firesmoke.

I think it is YOU who needs a history lesson, and maybe a lesson in critical reading skills as well.
