Some things that may seem racist or sexist or whatever are not, and, in fact, just are. A character is white? The character happened to be born with the alleles that give them fair skin. Does it have to insinuate some hidden white supremacist agenda? What if Moriarty was black? "omgah they're saying that all black people are violent terrorists!!!"

Some comments above are whining, "oh they make it seem like Chinese people are all criminals and smuggle shit" and later, after someone points out the head smugglers were white, retorts "oh they're saying Chinese people can't even do their own smuggling". Well. Looks like you can't go right anywhere...

I've stopped paying attention to anybody who tries to pull racism/sexism/homophobia/whatever out of the smallest things, because if you apply that to any random scenario, you will see that no matter how it's done, there's always something wrong to be found. What's a person to do, then?

There's a line between actual offensiveness and merely salvaging for something to complain about.
