The whole game was geared toward Cloud/Aerith, so much so that if a monkey played it by pressing random buttons they'd end up with Cloud/Aerith. That's why I don't see them ever doing anything like that even if it DID give both Aerith and Sephiroth's stories more depth. Too hung up on their favorite pairing to do that I guess.

Both myself and my eleven year old nephew got the date with Tifa when each of us played and we didn't have to do anything special or try for it. For my nephew's part at least I can vouch it was entirely unintentional that he got the Tifa date. He wasn't even aware their was a date to worry about and for myself, I never looked up the 'do this to get the date/don't do that' list for my own gameplay. I, at least, was never mean to Aerith either. I just paid attention to Tifa and treated Aerith the way I would any friend. The Barret or Yuffie date however... those I think you have to work pretty darn hard to get.

I agree, I think it would have been really interesting if they had done that. It also would have made her death even more twisted and tragic for me at least, but I still wish they'd have left it in.

Me too, except I think this might be really OOC for Sephiroth (assuming that we could figure out what IC for Sephiroth actually is).

I also have this fantasy about Squeenix going into the pre-game relationship between Kefka and Terra in their (hypothetical, never gonna happen) remake of FFVI. Like, what was Kefka like before he went crazy? Were he and Terra lovers? Were Terra and Celes friends?

But yeah, it would make sense for Aeris and Sephiroth to have known each other on a first-name basis in the pre-game story. I almost want to play Crisis Core just to confirm this...almost.

Oh, how I would love a FFVI remake. In all honesty I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. I always thought VI was one of the more popular ones...

And I would definitely love more Kefka-Terra interaction and backstory; there is so much potential there. I really enjoyed their interaction and Dissidia and wish it was expanded upon more.

The original plan for the game was to have Aerith and Sephiroth have some kind of past history together. Obviously what we got was very different, but the fact is that it could have very well been that way.

....yes but in the final game they didn't even know each other until the point sephiroth snaps and knew about some girl who's carring the white materia...

so this pairing indeed makes....no sense.

The comment I responded to was talking about how the idea of Sephiroth and Aerith being together made no sense. The secret itself was referring to a possible scenario where the two had a past history. In that possible scenario, the pairing would make sense.

That was the original plan, I believe. When they were coming up with the story a lot of different possibilities regarding the past history between Aerith and Sephiroth were thrown around, one being the sibling idea and the other being lovers. IIRC Sephiroth would have bought flowers from her, which she would be reminded of when Cloud buys them from her in the beginning. I don't think there was a Zack in the original draft, so Sephiroth would have been her SOLDIER boyfriend instead.

Me, too. Because for some reason, I like the Aerith/Sephiroth pairing even though they had absolutely no romantic interaction. Course, it may just be my love for crack pairings.

Despite me completely agreeing it makes no sense for Sephiroth/Aerith pairing at all because of the whole, you know, killing thing, but another part of me thinks they would've had great chemistry, especially considering how Aerith has that whispy way of understanding complex (or, in this case, crazy) people.

And word to this. I would have loved some canon Aeris/Sephiroth, even if it would have broken my heart later when he killed her.

And hey, at the very least it would mean more het!fic for Sephiroth, which is something I can always get behind. ^_^

Fuck it, this is my new headcanon. I didn't previously know about it but new fucking headcanon go. Because it works.
