I think I have to go with semolina pudding then, since neither grits nor cream of wheat have German wikipedia pages, therefor I assume we don't have either of them over here :/

... huh. I can't believe that you wouldn't have grits over there, it's basically just the little hard pieces inside corn kernels made into a hot cereal for super poor people!

And I actually did end up making grits. xD

Nope, we don't. I just found out there is a German wikipedia page for Grits, though. But it's all "bla bla, United States, bla bla, southern states of the U.S., bla bla, United States, bla bla, national dish of this and that state".

We have something more or less similar in other European regions (mainly Italy, southern Switzerland & Austria), though, which is called Polenta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polenta). I've never eaten it, though. Here in northern/central Germany potatoes are more common, when it comes to "cheap food".

I still have instant mashed potatoes :D might be my dinner tonight, hmmmm...
