Well, okay, SOME is probably an understatement, but if you'd been actively involved in the H/Hr and R/Hr circles you would have been looking for it more than someone who wasn't. Imho, anyway.

Not involved in HP fandom at all, but I could see that pairing coming in the books a mile away. I thought every pairing in those books were pretty damn obvious.

I thought Ron/Hermione was completely, totally, hitting-you-over-the-head obvious and Harry/Ginny caught me completely by surprise. I thought Harry/Cho was going to be canon and H/G just came out of nowhere, and I thought her crush in the beginning was comic relief. But that's what I like about Harry Potter, a lot of things that SEEM like comic relief end up being really important, like Scabbers or Trelawny (I definitely spelled that wrong, but whatever). I liked H/G because I didn't see it coming, although I could see how it could be totally obvious to some if they were just looking at it the right way.

I dunno, I actively hated it (and still do) from the moment I first saw it coming, and that was in book three. It felt so obvious she was setting up a "Slap slap kiss kiss" relationship, and the whole thing felt so forced, trite, and unhealthy that I just wanted to smack my head against a wall every time she gave them another "moment."

I didn't even join fandom until the fifth book, so, I dunno, it never seemed like a secret to me (which was another reason I hated it--that it was so blatant that was the pairing she was setting up that it was just boring and I wanted them to get it the heck over with).
