Word. Hermione was book-smart, Ron was perceptive and witty, and they both shared a logical, strategic intelligence: Ron with chess; Hermione with the potions thing at the end of PS and her various logical deductions throughout the series (I loved the scene in the DH movie where Harry says brilliant and she's like "oh, not really, I'm just very logical, which allows me too..." I know it was probably a product of the moviemaker's Hermione-worship, but it was cute and something Hermione would say.

I've always thought Hermione's faults were less evident when she was acting nicely with Ron (and vice versa), which is why I liked them together.
