That's a lousy reason. The whole "X deserves better than Y" is rarely a good reason. "
askdf;aldkna;lsdkfn THIS. Not for R/Hr, as I do ship that, but all the ships that I do dislike. It's never about who DESERVES who, it's about who is A BETTER MATCH for who, which is a highly subjective thing (as is made obvious by the existence of shipping wars). I've probably used the argument in the past, I admit, but it is really stupid and misses the point of shipping.

Yeah, I'm sure I used it in the past, and honestly, probably in regards to that very pairing, but that would've been in my wee baby days of fandom. It's even worse when the statement is something like "X deserves Y because he's been through so much!" because then it has the added distaste for making "Y" the prize that "X" deserves, instead of an actual person.
