10. hee. yay. I can sort of see the way you *could* compare them though, since they're by the same guys ... But not in a 'comparing' way that you're thinking of, if you have any clue what I mean. Like, CNNNN is always going to come up when you talk of the Chaser.

Just because they're by the same guys doesn't mean everything they make is going to be identical. I don't want them making the same show over and over again. That would be boring. CNNNN and The War serve/d different purposes. There might be similar elements, but that's down to how the way they do things.

CNNNN was brilliant, I'm not denying that, and I know it's always going to be mentioned when you talk about them, but The War is nothing like that. It's a different show. Still awesome in its own right, but different. This appears to be something some people find difficult to grasp, mainly by the people who want them to go back and do CNNNN again. But I don't want them to do that. They've already done that. Why do it again?

Apologies for the rant, but it's just something that's frustrated me for some time now.

No no, I understand what you're saying. It's different, it's not going to be CNNNN because that was a different concept. But... you have to admit that if people liked CNNNN more, then they'd say something like 'oh, I liked CNNNN better' even if it's nothing to do with it. It's like me saying "Oh, have you seen Black Books?" "Yeah, i like it! But I liked Father Ted more!" Which... is slightly annoying, but they're by the same guy so you just *do* naturally try and compare. If someone asks you 'what is the best book by such and such an author' you name one, usually. Even if they're a bunch of different genres but by the same person. Still annoying with CNNNN/Chaser, but you can sort of see why people do it, surely?
If they want Chaser to be like CNNNN though, then that's ridiculous.

Maybe I'm just one of those weird people who likes or dislikes shows for what they are, regardless of who made them. o.O Just like I don't see movies based on who's in them, but on whether they look interesting or not. But then I don't have favourite books either, I have favourite authors. If you asked me which is Isobelle Carmody's best book, I couldn't name one. I'd tell you to read all her work because they're all worth reading. I'd tell you to read all of Garth Nix's work. Or Terry Pratchett. Or whoever. *shrugs*

I suppose this is just another example of how differently I see things to the rest of the world. *sighs*

[identity profile] longlongwaytogo.livejournal.com 2007-06-05 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
heh maybe! But surely you have a less favoured book by Isobelle? (Who I also love, by the way). Or Terry? Etc? I agree for sure that people shouldn't *expect* Chaser to be like CNNNN. But if they liked one more than the other then... that's just how it is. But if they are all like 'aw i wish they'd do more stuff like CNNNN' then that's just stupid, because it's a different thing.
I don't see movies based on who's in them... unless it's someone *uber* cool, like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Hot Fuzz was instantly on my list of 'movies I must see' because I knew that they'd do it brilliantly. But isn't that like you saying 'go read everything by Terry coz he's great!'? But when it comes to *most* other actors, I don't care at all who is in them, I like the characters rather than the actors, and I won't watch a boring movie just because some 'hot guy' is in it.

(Anonymous) 2007-06-05 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I love all of her work. I honestly can't pick a favourite. If people like CNNNN over The War, fine, just don't expect or insist that they repeat the same thing over and over because it will get boring.

I will admit Hot Fuzz (and Shaun of the Dead) was my one exception. Because Simon Pegg is awesome. But that's as far as it goes. And I suppose it is like saying that. But still, if a movie sounds lame or uninteresting, I won't see it, no matter who's in it.
