Maybe it's because you're in shounen anime fandoms in which best friend relationships get more development than romantic ones.

Just saying, not everything has to boil down to an Austrian dude examining your troubled childhood.

For some reason, to me this secret reads like something written by one of those "If you turn friendships into romantic relationships you piss on the source material and have no idea what it's like to have friends!" people who is trying to make a fake point. Sorry if you're for real.

Ah no, I'm sorry, it's for real. I just feel super awkward because it's true that I never had a best friend that close and merely friendly acquaintances and when people shout "If you turn friendships into romantic relationships you piss on the source material and have no idea what it's like to have friends!" I feel..kind of targeted. I love the pairings I ship, but it's like I was deficient in something and therefore have less valid opinions in fandom or something. It's weird.

Friendship and a romantic relationship are not mutually exclusive :)
You probably had a close friendship with your partner (at least I hope so).

I feel offended when somebody says a romantic relationship "is more" than a friendship- as if close friendship -> a romantic relationship is an urgent succession. That's at least my problem with it.
As long as you don't claim this, it's cool :)
At the end, we both ship the intimacy and the "love" of two friends, just that you ship them and I friendship them.

Don't worry about it, man. I'm willing to bet MOST people don't have 'best friends' like those that are presented in media. I have a friend who I was so close to that we could finish each other's sentences, and still can after years of barely seeing each other, but it wasn't the ~ULTIMATE BROLATIONSHIP~ that best friendship is built up to be. In fact we usually had at least some level of hate/disdain for each other! A ton of best buds on TV and in movies are way closer than real best friends, so you probably do know what it's like to have a best friend, just not an idealised one - like how people know what romances are like without being Disney princesses.

I have a best friend. My feelings for her are actually pretty close to what I feel for someone I'm in romantic love with, with the big exception that I don't want to do sexy things with her. I also have some close friends that I don't have as intense feelings for. I prefer some canon friends as purely friends in fandom stuff and I like some canon friends as sexual partners in fandom stuff. So I really don't think shipping friends need to have anything to do with whether you've had close friends or not.

this is exactly what i came here to say. what i feel for my closest friend borders on romantic, but i feel absolutely no sexual attraction to her. and yet sometimes i like to write fictional friendships as existing or soon-to-be romantic relationships. it doesn't have to be either/or on these things.

and... what's wrong with shipping that way? Some best friends do feel that way about each other. Some don't. It's just fiction, you should really relax.
