Just because you like one creative work more than another or it emotionally resonates with you more, doesn't make it more "artistic" than another artist's work

Just throwing that out there

(I don't get why people hate on Mondrian so much, either. It's like people can't put art into a historical perspective to understand why it was a big deal at the time.)

Of course AMVs are art, or at the very least fanart. You have to create a "portrait" with the "paints". You're creating something that, at first, can only be seen with your imagination so others can enjoy it.

Pretty much anything involving a creative process is art.
But 99,9% of all art is shit so there you have it.

I always try to be positive towards art, but artists make it really difficult. A friend who frequently visits musea told me she went to see an exhibition last week where one of the pieces was a floor (several square meters) covered in peanut butter. Just a floor covered in peanut butter. Despite my best efforts, I just can't take that type of "art" seriously.

My teachers are probably spinning in their (unfilled) graves, but I just can't consider something art if anyone could have done it. A great deal of conceptual and abstract art falls right into that category...

*headdesk* I'm pretty sure that as an art student, you're supposed to have your own opinions and tastes about how you see and make art, and to NOT just accept pre-established notions of it.

And please pay attention to Art History class before making vague attempts to compare two wildly different approaches in art without taking into consideration of historical context of either examples. Would be super swell for next time, to be sure!

You know, they can say that 99% of anything is shit, that doesn't make it so... They can also say that 99% of what is called art today and is hanging on every art museum is good, but that doesn't make it so either.
What YOU yourself defines that art is, it's what will define your art.
Or something like that (anon is not a native English speaker, sorry)

Hey, is that the one with Metropolis and the song that goes, "When I close my eyes, I am in the center of the sun?" Cause that is one hell of a gorgeous vid. It's why I watched Metropolis at all.
