The style bugs me, I guess. I have a similar problem with harems. Nothing makes me avoid an anime faster than finding out it's a harem.

But several friends recommended it and I'd like to check some episodes before I judge.

Well...

The show has NO male characters at all. There's this boy Sayaka has a crush on, Madoka's dad (and baby brother)... and QB.

Kyouko-> Sayaka is confirmed at least? Supposedly, Sayaka's returning her feelings and putting aside her pride would have resulted in this good end (http://i56.tinypic.com/2wr3nnt.jpg). I pretend that's one of the unseen time loops. ;)

Homura-> Madoka... ish. Goes beyond friendship for sure. You'lllllll see.

I'm a magical girl fan, but I really don't like the moe hype...and Madoka is really pretty much a backlash response to the moe hype, I think. It seems mostly cute and innocent at first, if a little dark, then starts to become more and more nightmarish after episode 3. It's a great twist on both magical girl and moe shows.
