Yeah, I know what you mean. Sometimes it can be really discouraging if you find yourself comparing your work to theirs. But that doesn't mean that yours isn't good, as well. Or that you can't get better. Or at least this is what I keep telling myself =D

My first instinct was Young Justice.

Yeah, I know how you feel :(

My "fandom"- if you can even call it that - has about six fics in all. One of them is a smutty one-shot I wrote on a dare,the rest are... not very good, to put it mildly (by which I don't mean to imply that mine's particularly better, just that I'm not objective and don't want to either praise or bash it).

Yesterday, I found a fic I hadn't seen before, and it's better than anything I'll ever be able to write.

I nearly fucking cried.

... but then, I figured I'd read it. Once, twice, maybe more. I'll try to pinpoint what the author does better than I do - for example, I'm quite good with dialogue, not bad with scene-setting, but I fail hard at long, overarching plots. The fic in question has a clear storyline - I'll read it especially to see how the plot points are introduced, what the structure looks like etc. In short, I'll learn.

The next thing I write still won't be as good as said fic (learning to plot well is a hard thing to master), but I've decided to turn my feelings of inadequacy into a challenge. I figured, hey, since I'm struggling with depression anyway, I want to turn at least this tiny thing into something good.

Maybe you'll read some books about wrightig to improve your plots? They say Stephen King has written one really good. That might be helping. (Just trying to make an advice.)

If your fandom has only six fics - that's awfull! I know, I've been in one with five fics once. Oh, the times of suck and despair...

You're telling me! But hey, maybe you could use it to try and motivate you to practice until you're at a skill levle your proud enough to share. Easier said than done, I know, since I'm in the same place as you orz '~' but don't give up! Fandom can have wonderful ways of inspiring people, and you should explore and share that! Nobody will be inspired in exactly the same way as you, since everybody sees things differently. I hope you feel better about things soon ♥
