It's okay, if you were ever 'elitist' against 4chan as a whole then maybe you shouldn't go on there in the first place.

It consistently puzzles me how people
1. reference old-ass memes constantly and then talk about what a horrendous place /b/ is [without saying, I don't know, 'it used to be awesome but now it's terrible' or something like that
2. use '4chan' and '/b/' interchangeably, not acknowledging that 4chan is a site that has a good 30-something boards, many of which are COMPLETELY different from /b/
3. develop the blanket-generalization opinion that either '4chan is a terrible dangerous place filled with pedophiles and people who want to hack EVERYTHING I OWN' or '4chan is an awesome underground place full of left-wing activist-hackers who stick up for the underdog' based on a single piece of mass news. I'm absolutely horrified by the number of otherwise internet-savvy folks who fall into that kind of ignorance.

Just had to get that off my chest.

IA. (With the rest of your post as well, sure, but I've actually talked with someone who was all "MEMES LOL. Oh, 4chan? I hate that place.")

Agreed. 4chan is a great place for promoting free thought and /b/ doesn't define the whole site. It's funny to me that a site people are becoming afraid of are unknowingly being entertained by it at the same time.
