I like Martha/Mickey. They're the two who got left behind, the ones who never felt like they were good enough and then realized that they were worth something and that they deserved better. I was happy to see them both happy with someone (especially since I liked them both so much).

DA, and ITA. Mickey was one of my favorite characters, Martha was my favorite companion, and the thought of them going around having adventures and saving the world together makes me incredibly happy.

I loved both characters and definitely wanted to see them happy. I just don't see why that has to be with each other. Like I said, I haven't watched the particular scenes so there may be a very good reason why Martha's hot doctor fiancee was no longer around (with this show, I doubt it). Nonetheless, they can both be awesome and paired with other people, especially since in Martha's case, this other character already existed. Hell, they could both be awesome and single. There's no reason to throw two people together just because they're both...there. I need a little character development and history and actual rather than implied interaction behind my romances, otherwise it's just lazy. Plus, there's something really skeezy to me about Martha getting together with Rose's ex, since IMO, that just reverts Martha back to the character that so many people seem to complain about her being. Again, I think it's just the writers were too damn lazy to give these two real relationships or respect their growth and history on the show during their main runs and subsequent guest episodes and so they just put them together to "tie up loose ends." Martha and Mickey deserve so much more than to be "loose ends."

I think there's something about things between Martha and her doctor not working out (probably because he was completely different from the one that she met during the finale since he hadn't gone through that year of hell).

I honestly don't mind that Mickey is Rose's ex cuz it's not like Martha knew either of them during the time they were together. And I saw the Martha/Mickey thing coming a mile away at the end of season 4 when they went off to Torchwood together. To be fair, how could they not be drawn together at some point. They both traveled with the Doctor, both suffered through similar "second-class citizen" status while in the TARDIS, both had "I deserve more" moments, and had just almost died/saved the world together at the end of season 4.

It might seem "loose end-y" to some people but I think the fact that they had such similar experiences with the Doctor/the TARDIS makes it easier to see why they might end up together. And I think they're both amazing people so when fans say "they both deserve more," it seems insulting to both Martha and Mickey.

I get the feeling I'm in the minority about this though.

Hey, to each their own. It seems to me like something of a reach, like it's more about the idea of how wonderfully parallel they are or something, rather than anything about the characters' personalities or preferences or own lives, but it's not like I don't have my own crazy potentially minority opinions about couples in multiple fandoms.

Just wanted to clarify that I didn't say Martha deserved more than Mickey or vice versa, and therefore was insulting neither of them. I said I think they both deserve more than how they were treated by the writers et al. - as if they (and their "futures") shouldn't get the same amount of development and thought as any other character, which I don't feel they got. Maybe that's splitting hairs, but I think it's an important distinction.

Had the actors been available, Martha and Mickey would have been in CoE and would have been a married couple then. So it had been planned.

Plus, when you think of it, they (and Sarah Jane) had the best endings of Ten's companions.
