No worries! There have been the occasional Discworld secrets here. I think there was even a Nation one. There was more than one about Vimes/the city watch, and at least one Monstrous Regiment secret.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
calm down, op. there have been non-Good Omens-related Pratchett secrets too.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
it's because Good Omens has more slash material than all other books by Pratchett & Gaiman together.

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we including comics? Because there were a lot of gay people in Sandman, I'm just sayin'.

I think you're forgetting just how much respect Vimes inspires in his men. Slash everywhere, let me tell you.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-27 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Have you even READ the Watch books? oO Or Going Postal and Making Money? If that's not slashy, I don't know what is.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Good Omens, and thought it was hilarious. But I've tried reading the Discworld series and I was very underwhelmed. Everyone acted like it was hilarious, and it just didn't do a thing for me.

Okay, I liked the Luggage.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If you've just tried reading the first few Discworld books, yeah, they kinda stink compared to the middle to later ones.

[identity profile] fictionalbf.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If you started with the first two books, then it's not really a surprise that you couldn't get into them. He was still finding his feet in those two, and even though I have a huge amount of nostalgia!love for Rincewind, I find him unbearably annoying.

I'd suggest you read Witches Abroad or Guards! Guards! before you write off Discworld entirely - they're so much better than the first few that it's amazing. And if you don't like them either, then that's okay too. :)

"Everyone acted like it was hilarious, and it just didn't do a thing for me." pretty much sums up my feelings for Good Omens. Mildly amusing, but mostly just forgettable.

There was a Maskerade secret a while back, and another one the same day, although I don't remember what it was for. The GO fandom's just really excited about the upcoming miniseries, methinks. It'll die down again in a little while.

Also, if you want to talk PTerry with someone, I'm always up for a chat. :D

[identity profile] freak-of-spade.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
There HAVE been a few Discworld secrets. And you're thinking of both authors separately, while a lot of its appeal is the mixture of both their styles, Pratchett's luminous sarcasm and Gaiman's dark elegance.

As for the fact that there are 'better' books...yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

[identity profile] fictionalbf.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I love everything about this comment, especially your description of the authors' respective styles. 'luminous sarcasm' is one I haven't heard applied to PTerry yet, and yet it is somehow just perfect.

There was a secret about the TV series for Good Omens a week or two ago (I think), and amidst all the general squeeing about this bit of news, someone in the comments mentioned shows for Sandman and Ankh Morpork's Watch had been announced too.

The only reply was someone saying they'd still rather watch Good Omens than those other two shows, then proceeded to ask if they were both comics.

The slash kiddies haven't read anything else by those authors. Deal with it, OP.

I'm not fond of books by just Terry Pratchett and just Neil Gaiman. I've tried at least three books written by each alone and didn't much enjoy them. I love Good Omens (and not just because of slash, above anon) and it's one of my favourite books.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-26 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Discworld secrets tend to be about specific bits of Discworld, like Nanny Ogg this or Death that. Plus there was a Maskerade secret pretty recently that you may not have recognized - it only mentioned the character names and had part of the cover art in the secret.

[identity profile] theditz.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
There have been a few Sandman secrets and a few Discworld, so it's not only Good Omens. It probably have a lot of secret because 1. Tt's a bloody brilliant book and 2. The slash potential is quite big.

[identity profile] nemo-de-la-meer.livejournal.com 2011-03-26 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit. After reading the secret about Good Omens a couple entries ago, I decided to read it. Have read Sandman by Neil and I haven't read anything bu Pratchett.

Long story short, enjoying the book. But I can't make a judgment over if the book is *amazing*.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Were you here last year? Remember all of that Good Omens storm? EVERYWHERE. This current surge is NOTHING.

And there were absolutely tons of Discworld secrets and lots about Pratchett having Alzheimer's, too.
Either you missed the Pratchett storm or you forgot it.

OP

Well, personally Good Omens is one my favourite books of all time ever, but that seems silly. I've definitely seen other Pratchett secrets here, and I think even a few about Sandman and Coraline and I'm pretty sure one about the Graveyard Book.

[identity profile] htebazytook.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Because Good Omens has a glorious slash pairing with a literal eternity of potential for fic

AGREED, so hard!

Your memory's going, OP.

I like collecting secrets, and the following are Discworld ones I've saved (don't ask me when they were posted, though, but I think it was sometime in the last few months).
