I couldn't agree more with you, Anon. Believe me, Tom's story strikes me deeply and I'm not sure why it hurts so much.

Humiliating and terrible confession:
I may get dog-piled for mny past idiocy but I think this comic (a few years ago) was what ultimately really helped me understand trans issues. I was pretty ignorant on the subject before hand. It just hadn't come up before with me before coming across this webcomic. I'd vaguely heard of it before but never looked into it really. Kind of helped open the door to what gender really was and all.
I think I like most of the main characters in their own way and there's possibly a character for everyone who is a fan of it to relate to.
I think him and Alex together is kind of adorable, angsty and hilarious at various points which is kind of great.

I discovered this comic around the time I was starting to properly question my gender identity. As with you, OP, I'm more like Alex, but Tom is definitely one of my favourite characters. His story made my heart break, and I have the feeling Charlie's will do the same. =S In a good way.
