I'm generally amused when I see a "I hate fandom and I gave it up for real life" kind of secret here. I mean, 'cause obviously the person posting it is still coming back to fandom for some kind of affirmation, right?

A love fest would be pretty nice.

But I think it would get old fast if one didn't find room to vent or express criticism. For me at least. Plus, you know, it's f!s. There's a fair mix of happy and hate, but I don't believe it's representative of some internet crisis of people harshing on fun.

Do you mean people who are hating on fandom as fandom, or people in fandom who are hating on other people in fandom for whatever fandom-related reason, like disliking their preferred pairing or something?

Fandom isn't *about* anything. It's a dead entity--a byproduct of imagination. :/ It's neither good nor bad, and it certainly isn't about "bringing people together". If anything, it's more like group masterbation.
