I don't understand this attitude, but it crops up in my (FPS) fandoms as well. Apparently the second you start liking characters, plot, or (heaven forbid) slash, it must mean you don't like playing the actual game.

What the whaaaaaaaat. I love the plot/characters because I love the game. Yet the last time I met one of these "REAL fan" whiners in game she wasn't anywhere near as good as I am. In fact, she was so fucking terrible I felt secondhand embarrassment for being a female fan; she'd talked herself up and couldn't hack it. Spoiler: no one in the match knows I slash Soap/Price in my spare time. They do, however, see my KTD ratio.

tl;dr, I bet there are shitton of "puckbunnies" and "bitches" who know the plays better than you do, comrade.

are you me? because I had this dumb bint rag on me for having a slashy picture in my profile, but when I looked at her stats they were fucking pitiful

I think it's just a case of one bad apple spoiling it for the rest. You get one crazy fangirl/boy who is REALLY into everything but the actual game or source (and openly admits it) and ends up making a bad name for anyone who happens to enjoy the game plus the characters/story/etc. It's dumb, to say the least.

This, basically. I don't even like slash personally, but why can't they be 'real' fans too? I know slash fans in both FPS and hockey that are also hardcore fans. Liking slash doesn't make them less genuine. For many of them, the slash is secondary anyway.
