Right, because if we just let all intolerances slide, we'd be such a forward-thinking world. :P Who cares about gay rights? People just have different opinions!

Pff. No. I'll keep being intolerant towards intolerances, thanks.

That is my point. When I'm intolerant of religion, you say "tut, tut, mustn't be intolerant". But when you're intolerant of homophobia, that's okay. The irony being, I hate religion in large part because of its homophobia. Yes, yes, all people who are religious are not homophobic. They are that way despite the religion, because all of the big ones direct homophobia. Don't join the KKK if you disagree with its charter and are not racist. Don't join one of the Abrahamic religions if you disagree with its charter and are not homophobic. It's not my fault when you say you're a Christian or a Muslim or whatever, and I think you must be a homophobe. It's a reasonable assumption. If you're not racist, don't show up in a pointy white hat.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were arguing that we should respect everyone's beliefs. But I agree with what you're saying here. My point is that I don't tolerate intolerance, so I don't tolerate a large part of religion (i.e. 99% of organized religion). And I hate when people get offended that I criticize their religion, and argue that "not all of us are sexist, homophobic, racist, etc", and sure, the majority might not be, but they still support a religion that is. I don't think religious beliefs gets a free pass, and I don't think it automatically deserves respect; I think beliefs are just as deserving of critical judgement as political opinions, and so I often get labeled an intolerant asshole... and so my response is that I just don't tolerate intolerance, and most religions are extremely intolerant.

So, ARE you an angry,self-absorbed 14-year-old nerd who thinks they're the Smartest Person Evar and So Far Above The Sheeple and Their Fairy Tales, or are you just stuck in that phase still?

I say this as an atheist.

So, you are the sort of person that would have known that evil spirits don't cause infection, and you wouldn't call it bullshit and advocate doctors scrubbing-in because the real culprit is microbes... because you wouldn't want the social awkwardness of how bad it looks to be a minority going against one of the thousands of things that the majority of people once believed, and now don't, because a campaign of truth waged by nerds managed to turn it around.

"join"?
I'm a Christian primarily because I was raised into it and see it as currently the best framework within which to express my theistic beliefs, and don't see why I should be obliged to deconvert just because a bunch of people have decided to use Christianity to support their bigoted views.

I'm also gay and trans, have found support in the GLBT Christian community, plan to do activist work with it in future, and see no reason to leave.
