Yeah, I get what you're saying about slashfic. And people who aren't interested in that don't have to read it, just like I'm not interested in religious fic and pass it by. But I don't want to read a fic where suddenly Harry wants to bang Nearly Headless Nick without any believable setup (and if there is such a fic with convincing setup, I totally do want to read it, for the record :-P )
Similarly, I think a story in which a character suddenly has a religious conversion or "rebirth" is incongruous with the rest of the world as set up by JKR. I guess if someone wanted to write an epic and well-developed fic about that (perhaps drawing from some of the references in the links that anon left above?) that would be different. I've only ever encountered a few religious-conversion fics, but they've tended to be very abrupt and not developed -- suddenly one of the characters is preaching to the others about Jesus or something, with no setup or explanation. That's what I meant about the author forcing his/her beliefs, it just seems heavy-handed.
