Honestly, though? I've never found good fic in this fandom. I've tried on occasion, but if there are gems, they are hidden somewhere down deep.

I've never looked for fic for CATS, but the film adaptation gives some clue to pairings.... at least I thought so 16 years ago.

I agree with the disappointment about them rarely acting like real cats in fanfic. Nevertheless, there are some good fics on FF.Net that I think are worth the time to read. :D

http://www.fanfiction.net/u/165565/Crawler - The entire Ritzkin arc is fantastic, and if you want you can see it as normal cats instead of the usual human-cats of the musical. All but one were written by Crawler, and it goes pretty heavily into the background of the Junkyard.

I'd recommend more, but it's been so long since I read Cats fic that this is the only one that springs to mind. :) There are a couple fanpages out on the internet somewhere, but I lost the links to those a year or so ago. xD

First: I love CATS and I'm glad the music has helped you get through this difficult time in your life. I'm so sorry about your father.

Second, slightly OT: I actually thought that a lot of the cats in the story were feral...if I'm not wrong, TSE wrote Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats about the feral population of Cambridge (I think?) and then ALW adapted that into the musical, which gives them the set-up of being a colony of ferals. Or something.

That was my understanding, anyway :x
