Hmm... I've never thought about this before... good point...

It doesn't make you a bad feminist to want to be carried away, or to have a fantasy about being rescued. We all want help at want point or another, and we all want the luxury of being able to relinquish control and responsibility to yourself.

And also, as long as you lose weight in a healthy manner, it really doesn't matter why you do it, I'd imagine.

Any motivation is good motivation to lose weight if it drives you to exercise and eat right, OP.

Just because you can carry yourself doesn't mean you have to carry yourself. There's not shame in wanting someone else to take care of you sometimes, whether you're male, female, or in-between.

I'm glad you found your inspiration though. I need to find some haha

"I'm glad you found your inspiration though. I need to find some haha"

Ditto...

i know what you mean op. i want to be that tall, buff heroic-looking archetype and i can't because lolshort.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here OP. For my height I'm overweight but I've still been carried. You just have to find a big enough guy. I'm insanely obsessed with overly tall man-mountains. Carry me away my lord! Swoon.

As long as you don't think everyone's relationship should be like that, who cares? Your likes are your own.

[identity profile] innatizzy.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Being a feminist means believing in the right to choose whether you are carried, not that you can't enjoy or choose it for yourself.

Good luck on losing weight, OP. I figure whatever motivates a person to get healthier and in shape is a good thing, so don't feel badly about it!

THIS.

I think the problem is that there is a message in society that women need to be carried and men do not.

I kind of view it the way I see me being tall = me being unfeminine. It irritates the crap out of me that I have to go look around for a 7 foot tall man because women are supposed to be small and dainty.

Yeah I like tall men, but I shouldn't feel like I *have* to like tall men.

Maybe that's how OP is feeling, IDK.

That 'ability to choose' argument falls so flat to me, at least in terms of how it's portrayed in media because of S. Meyer's bullshit about how Bella ~chose Edward and becoming a vampire to going to college and becoming her own person. Also, I agree with the anon above me in how society dictates gender norms. It's much, much better than it was 50 years ago, but we've still got a ways to go.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Awww. I think your fantasy is sweet, and why not lose weight for that.

Though I have been carried around a few times and every time I was absolutely terrified he was going to drop me. I felt hideously off balance. I couldn't enjoy it at all until my feet were safely on the ground and I had some control over myself again.

I'm not a romantic, I guess.

[identity profile] fearless-rabbit.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Adopting a healthy lifestyle is a really good thing, and if your fantasy motivates you to do that, then what's the harm? Eating right and exercising are things everybody should make an effort to do in the ways that they can. It's not about having an ideal body, it's about having the healthiest version of your body.

That said, if you work healthy habits into your life, but your body still isn't carry-on size? Then don't beat yourself up about it too much and just be proud you're taking good care of yourself. You can be large AND healthy, and it's a really bad idea to throw away the "healthy" to try to get rid of the "large".
