Wow. People must be dicks to tell you that about your inspiration :/ Inspiration is inspiration no matter where it comes from. It's not fair for other people to tell you it's something you should be ashamed of.

Screw those people. Finding the inspiration to make your life better is a wonderful thing, regardless of what inspired you.

And (just because it continually pisses me off), fuck that whole "mainstream=crap" mentality. How the hell does being obscure and less well-known suddenly make something better than something else? Not saying that all "mainstream" stuff is amazing nor am I saying that less well-known things are all crap, but mainstream=/= inferior.

Fuck that noise. I wouldn't go so far as to say Katy Perry has inspired me, but "Firework" always makes me feel strong and happy. Hold on to that strength, anon, and give those haters a piece of your mind.

She inspires me to put up with my strict religious parents until I can move out because if she could escape that and become successful then so can I.

I don't like Katy Perry very much. It's not the "mainstream is crap" reasons (hell, I like Gaga) but it's stuff you've probably heard before. My reasons aren't anything original, that's obvious.

But I'm glad you found strength in her music and she inspired you. Regardless of my personal feelings about Katy's music, I'm really happy you found something that made you happier. And if someone thinks that inspiration isn't valid just because they don't like Katy Perry? Fuck that. No matter where it comes from, inspiration to be courageous and accepting is always a good thing.
