IA. Especially people saying Klaine can't be "endgame" because they got together in season two. Aren't Finchel "endgame"? And they got together in season one.

Even if Klaine aren't "endgame", at least can't these people just let me bask in the glory of the Kliss for a moment?

Are people saying it a lot? Well, I guess I can understand it in this fandom, mostly because there IS no endgame and the writers are making it up as they go, which is very frustrating for fans. (I watched the PaleyFest panel today, and they flat-out said they don't know about Brittana or basically anything else because the show is a "pop-culture tribute" and they basically just reflect whatever's happening in the world and...make it up as they go. Although RM also said he wanted Kurt to have "a happy ending" because of the bullying thing and I was like DO YOU REALLY. WELL, THAT'S SHOCKING. AUTHOR AVATAR MUCH? Gawd. So if anyone is endgame, it's probably them. Sidebar: I also watched that ep, and dear god, squeeing at my desk is unprofessional. BUT--!!!!)

So if anyone is endgame, it's probably them.

This. RM said he was being very careful with their relationship.

Huh. So is "endgame" slung around in TV fandom when people are talking about who they think is going to be together when the series ends, or what?

I'm only active in video game fandom, so I could never get sick of "endgame" because it's...an incredibly useful word for those discussions, ahaha.

[identity profile] iapetusneume.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I was gonna say... I'm used to "endgame" from video game fandoms I've been in. I've never really heard it anywhere else, but then again, I haven't participated much in TV fandoms (yet?).

[identity profile] hezul.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My fandom involvement these days is pretty much...video games and nothing else, so I'm cheerfully clueless about the terminology in other pastures.

[identity profile] allons-y42.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been hearing it a lot in the fandoms I dabble in (TV mostly) and it's usually denoting the fact that the characters are actually in it for the long haul, i.e. Jim/Pam and Michael/Holly on the Office. As opposed to just dating for a bit until the actor/actress has to leave the show, like all of Liz's boyfriends so far on 30 Rock.

The Parks and Recreation fandom's starting to use "endgame" for Leslie and Ben and I don't know how I feel about that, even as a huge shipper. Long story short, I can see how "endgame" can be an annoying concept for the anon.

[identity profile] hezul.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_thirty2flavors/ 2011-03-30 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah "endgame" in my experience is used to refer to a ship that isn't together in the present but fandom presumes will get together in the end (or if the series is already over, the ship that did get together in the end). Ron and Hermione, for example, were "endgame" in canon, or Ross and Rachel. Since in tv shows especially it's pretty common for couples to get together and then break up and get together again at a later point, "X/Y is endgame" tends to get used when there's a couple that fans (or a certain subset of fans) think will get together at the end. The only on-going one I can think of right now is something like Barney and Robin in HIMYM. They're not together in canon at the moment but I know some people assume they're "endgame" and will be together when the series ends.

That makes sense. I just kept coming at it from a vidya perspective, where I'm using to hearing it applied to...game content and bonus bosses and stuff, so I was kind of like "...other mediums use this?"

Why is "klaine" related to "endgame"? it's the opposite, actually.

*is bored*

(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Point. I have been saying/seeing that word an inordinate amount of times since I joined Glee fandom, lol. But, yeah, Klaine's not endgame. It's a mid-game fad.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-30 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but especially for Glee. How many high school relationships are "endgame" anyway? I kind of want everyone to graduate single . . . except maybe Mercedes.

[identity profile] ldkirby.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Especially for Glee, since endgame is just going to be whatever pairings happen to be together when the show gets cancelled in ten years. The writers can barely plan more than one episode ahead from what I can tell.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol. I find it cute that anyone is declaring Klaine endgame right now. Maybe they will be, but really...

[identity profile] agnes-bean.livejournal.com 2011-03-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Word. (I am especially sick of hearing about it in relationship to Community, since I'm about 80% sure the writers have no idea if Jeff is going to end up with Britta, Annie, someone else, or no one, and if I had to bet I'd put my money on no one. And yet people talk about it on the meme all the damn time).

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is why I'm not too involved with the Community fandom because I know there's wank about that.

[identity profile] agnes-bean.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's so silly. OTOH, if you stick to the main comm, it's not too bad (oh Community anon meme, why can't I quit you?).

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
The anon meme made me wince half the time.

I think endgame was valid for older tv shows, when it was clear that couples were going to go a certain way. But now that shows are more interested in fan-service in order to keep up numbers and get more ads, I don't believe anything is truly endgame in tv anymore, no matter what your network producers tell you. Especially in Glee, although the writers really seem to want to make Wemma endgame. Probably because they deserved each other. But yeah, as soon as they get another out gay character, who hasn't made death threats, Kurt or Blaine's gonna cheat.
