See, in this case the reason it's annoying is this fandom is predominately male. The reason the list of female creators exists is to show that females exist in the community.

Well yeah that's a whole other bitchfit I went through when I first found it. On one hand I hate the idea that people would specifically want to see what I do because I'm a woman and not because they like it. On the other hand; Free advertising.

... that seems like a weird list to make. Especially on internets, where this kind of thing is particularly easy to hide or misrepresent or keep mum about.

It sounds like something ripe for exactly this situation.

Quite. In this case it's a bit easier to tell their gender because they often show up in public to pimp their wares.
