Not OP but....

It depends on what you like to read. I'm not a huge fan of those never-ending serial novels like the Dresden Files, the Anita Blake novels or anything of the like. I usually get three or four books in and then lose interest. The Cal Leandros books are of a similar format, so I think I made it to book three in this series.

The writing style is a bit simple (read: low grade level) but clear and easy to read. It flows well enough. I love the arching storyline and the characters are great fun if a bit sue-ish. You could probably make a case for the characters being more archetypal than sue-ish if you wanted to. That could probably be attributed to the type of novel as opposed to anything inadvertently done (significantly less sue-ish than Anita if that helps).

I've heard comparisons between the Cal Leandros series and the Supernatural tv show too. A not so flattering review (of the author as a whole not these books in particular) had mentioned that the books read like an AU fic of the tv show. I can see where they were coming from, what with both having such an emphasis on the 'brothers' relationship, and the younger brother's pull to the 'dark side' but there are many significant differences. I personally can see influences, not necessarily references.

All that being said, I work in a bookstore and keep seeing the 6th book in the series on display right in front of me and I gotta say, the premise for Blackout's got me seriously debating trying for the series again.

ps. I loved her Chimaera book.

That was a wonderful review. Thank you!
