It felt slow and cumbersome.

This sums up my feelings about the DA:O battle. It's the only game I've not been able to use at least Normal for my first run through, simply because I don't mesh with the battle system at all.

Oh yeah, I was the same way. I struggled through combat on Normal until about...oh...I think a third of the way through the game. Then I threw my hands up in the air, said "screw it", set the battles onto Easy and just blasted through the battles to get to the parts I actually cared about: the story bits.

I'm a little more prone to be excited about battles in DA2, I've discovered.
