..."Barbequed"? That's way harsh, Tai. I watched the pilot for work, and I have to say, I was actually kinda impressed that they Went There in the FIRST TEN MINUTES and that's, like, actually the premise of the show. But yeah, I suppose wank would make sense. Bit surprising. Then again, I don't watch it regularly; maybe it's out there.

Maybe because Raising Hope is just so over the top sometimes that people don't know how to react? Or that the show is actually doing most of the stuff on purpose and knows how racy it's being so even if there was wank it would be pushed aside with a "but that's the /premise/"?

I don't know, TBH. I'm just glad that the show is decent and funny and heartwarming and that's it hasn't caused a bunch of drama. I hope it stays that way too. *crosses fingers*

It gets so much better in the subsequent episodes. There are actually quite a few touching moments toward the ends of a few episodes.

You also have to not take the show too seriously, it's OTT and hilarious if you just let it be what it is.
