That's sort of awesome.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. I don't blame you. There was this French teacher in high school whom my friend felt resembled Liszt, so she called him "Franco-Liszt." (Not to his face.) And funny you mention torrid love affairs, because...er, well, that's another story. >____>

[identity profile] tei-0.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
WELL I'M JEALOUS OF YOU, OP.

[identity profile] kitty-wake.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, everyone had a torrid love affair with Liszt in a past life. Why does no-one ever have past-life love affairs with unattractive composers? I'd be much more impressed if you'd conquered Claude Debussy.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-31 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
And then I lol'd.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-31 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
This secret made me smile HUGELY. I hope you two have a torrid illicit reunion in a future life.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-31 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You are not alone. There's a reason "Lisztomania" is a word; Franz Liszt was basically the 19th century equivalent of a rock star sex god.

From Wikipedia: "Lisztomania was characterized by a hysterical reaction to Liszt and his concerts. Liszt's playing was reported to raise the mood of the audience to a level of mystical ecstasy. Admirers of Liszt would swarm over him, fighting over his handkerchiefs and gloves. Fans would wear his portrait on brooches and cameos. Women would try to get locks of his hair, and whenever he broke a piano string, admirers would try to obtain it in order to make a bracelet. Some female admirers would even carry glass phials into which they poured his coffee dregs."

Beiber fever!

[identity profile] fiducia.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, anon! I was going to point this out too. I learned about it when I was in my music history class in college. Good job!

(Anonymous) 2011-03-31 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, who hasn't?

Maybe OP will enjoy this comic:

dammit I came here to post this

[identity profile] nota-lone.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. Whoops.

[identity profile] starshipblues.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm sure you're not the only one.

[identity profile] june-miller.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Liszt was a manwhore back in the day.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-03-31 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, Liszt appears to have been better looking than I had hitherto imagined. Although, I must admit to a certain level of curiosity as to why exactly you believe this.

[identity profile] a-phoenixdragon.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Classical does indeed count! And my...what a good musician to pick - unnghh. Pretty, too!

(Anonymous) 2011-04-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Classical music does NOT count as a fandom! It's so far in the past (and I am speaking generally here obvs, modern classical music excluded) that its like claiming the Tudors are a fandom, or Shakespeare - the people, not any fictional representations.

They're not a fandom, they are just people who once existed. We don't even know what they looked like for sure, let alone who they were.

The music is awsome; don't belittle it by saying that the composers are more important.

P.S. If we're going in terms of music then Debussy beats Liszt in my opinion. Not because of his supposed looks but because of the music alone. Isn't that the true "fandom"?

P.P.S. If you believe in past lives then you are clearly delusional anyway so, frankly, I don't know why I am attempting to argue logically.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
P.S. How egotistical do you have to be to believe that a famous composer would have had an affair with you?
(Secret: I genuinely believe that I had an affair with John Lennon in a past life in the '60s!)

[identity profile] deavar.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
But there's no such thing as past lives...

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
In a past life I was Alexander the Great's chief eunuch. (Bonus points to anyone that gets that.)

Seriously, rock on with your Liszt-banging self. I believe my last past life ended when the ship I was on (circa 1920's) SANK. Watching 'Titanic' was not a fun experience.

[identity profile] the-13th-bullet.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
For a long, strange moment I was very confused, because that's the image used as a cover on the first copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray that I ever read. I thought you were saying that you'd had a torrid love affair with a fictional character.

The actual secret was much better :)

(Anonymous) 2011-04-01 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
he looks like that villain from the first shrek movie

[identity profile] nota-lone.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's pretty cool.
(And history is the best fandom, yay.)

Did you see the Hark a Vagrant comic on Liszt?

[identity profile] eelsalad.livejournal.com 2011-04-02 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Liszt! Oh man. One of the teachers at the music school I went to had a HUGE poster of Liszt over his piano and I used to drool over it whenever he left his studio door open. Unf. There's a reason the dude was one of the world's first rock stars.
