Anyone who takes the character Histugaya seriously, whether it's shipping or the canon plot, is laughable.

Especially western fandom.

I like that little iceshrimp, but I have to agree that I cannot take him seriously, both about him and Matsumoto. Both of them are mostly bait for fangirl and fanboy in different ways, which's sad, because they had so. much. potential, and it was throwed away in out-of-nowhere romance undertones, excessive use of bankais and oversexualization. :|

Well, to be fair, Rangiku was always hypersexualized. I still think she has great potential.

Hitsugaya is overly sexualized? Where?

I mainly read the manga, so I don't know if this is more of an anime thing, but he reads more to me as "the character put in mainly for the younger fans to identify with," hence his near ridiculous popularity.

No no, I was talking about both of them, but separatedly. I just worded it badly, sorry. I meant Rangiku is hypersexualized, and Hitsugaya is a fanboyfest of excessive use of bankai, heh.
