On the contrary, I like listening to it because it takes me back to various moments/emotions that were in the movie/tv show (and it makes the music even better for me).

Now if we're talking music from old 70s/80s movies or soap operas or something then no, I have no desire to listen to it out of context.

But most scores now (I said most, not all) have tons of music that can stand on its own.

For instance listen to this and tell me it isn't absolutely gorgeous:

The American Beauty OST is what got me into scores in the first place. It's some of the most one hauntingly beautiful music I own.

(Though I love most everything Thomas Newman's done, haha.)
